Looking At You (Allan Johnston/Idris Jones) 2:11
    W&G S-2369 1965
A-side of the only single by this Adelaide band. Idris Jones became lead singer of The Mixtures a couple of years later.
  2. The Twilights
    My Generation (Townshend) 3:26
    Raven RVLP 08 1982
Recorded by 3UZ at the Palais Theatre, Melbourne at the group’s support spot for the Rolling Stones in 1966. Released on the Twilight Time LP years later.
  3. Jeff St John & The Id
    The Jerk (Don Julian) 4:09
    Spin EK-1328 1966
The Id’s second single, a some-may-say superior version of a song recorded two years previously by US doo-wop group The Larks.
  4. The Harts
Little Girl (I’m So In Love With You) (Gardiner) 2:07
    HMV EA-4849 1967
Another obscure Adelaide band, and the A-side of their only single. An infuriatingly catchy song with a Herman’s Hermits feel.
  5. The Harts
Cry No More For You (Gardiner) 2:14
    B-side of track 4.
  6. Cheryl Gray
You Don't Love Me Any More (Leon Huff) 1:56
    HMV EA-4852 1967
The A-side of this Sydney singer’s third single, though its B-side You Made Me What I Am became the hit! She went on to have a couple of hits in the 1970s as Samantha Sang.
  7. Somebody’s Image
    Heatwave (Holland/Dozier) 2:28
    In S-8088 1967
Their debut single, and therefore the first record to feature the vocals of Russell Morris.
  8. Ram Jam Big Band
    I Can’t Let Go Of This Feelin’ (Clyne/Aulton) 2:39
    Spin EK-2276 1968
“A cornerstone institution and an important breeding ground for rock musicians of note on the Melbourne scene during the late 1960s/early 1970s” (Ian McFarlane). A-side of their third single.
  9. The Groop
    Lovin' Tree (Ross/Cadd) 2:08
    CBS BA-221485 1968
This single was also released in the UK while The Groop resided there, and was moderately successful in Germany.
  10. Red Angel Panic
Good Old Rock'N'Roll (Ron Anderson) 2:08
    Nationwide NSP-042 1972
Second and final single of Adelaide group, credited on cover to 'Rocky & The Rockin' Red Angels'. Rob Tillett is on lead vocals. The song was written by their second bass player; the first was Chris Bailey, pre-Angels.
  11. Daddy Cool
    Hi Honey Ho (Wilson) 6:45
    Sparmac SPL 002 1972
The rarely heard full-length version of this DC classic, from their second LP. It also appeared on a 12” single in 1982.
  12. Duck
    Southern Man (Neil Young) 2:13
Live on GTK (ABC-TV) circa 1972, vocals by Bobbi Marchini. Previously unreleased.
  13. Johnny Farnham & Hunger
    Lucille (Penniman) (3:09)
    Live on GTK circa 1972.
A rare excursion into rock for Farnham at this point, backed by John Robinson's band Hunger, which he formed between leaving Blackfeather and joining Duck. Previously unreleased.
  14. La De Das
The Place (Kevin Borich/Keith Barber) 5:34
    EMI EMC 2504 1973
Full-length version from the Rock & Roll Sandwich LP. An edited single was released in 1974.
  15. Kush
    Easy Street (Steve Ball) 3:46
    Warner Bros WBA-4072 1974
A #17 hit in Melbourne for this “camp jazz/pop” band led by Jeff Duff. It also appeared on their Snow White And The Eight Straights LP.
  16. Joy Dunstan
Warm Tender Love (Gary Young) 3:48
    Oz OZS 1001 1976
Dunstan played Dorothy in Oz: A Rock & Roll Road Movie and was invited to perform this song for the soundtrack, probably her only recording. The band comprises Gary Young, John Power, Jeff Burstin, Wayne Burt and Peter Jones, with Ross Wilson on backing vocals.
  17. Tole Puddle
Too Late To Cry (G.Bartlett/Tole Puddle) 3:27
    Billingsgate L35796 1976
Expat NZ group who recorded one folk-rock album In Search Of A Breath Of Fresh Air, then split on the day of its release. They reconvened in a country-rock style but didn’t last much longer. They had two singles but this is a track from the LP.
  18. Punkz
Take Me For What I'm Worth (P.F. Sloan) 2:58
    Mushroom K-6815 1977
One of two singles before they changed their name to Cheek and their style to a more successful pop sound. This song was produced and engineered by “The Masked Marvels”, AKA Vanda & Young.
  19. Rockwell T. James
    She's On My Mind (Porter/James/Mitchell) 2:46
    Razzle K-7045 1978
B-side of the Rollin’ On single by the recording star referenced in, and playing on, track 14.
  20. Mike Rudd & The Heaters
    Australian Girl (Rudd/Slavich) 3:28
    Mushroom K 7780 1979
Debut single by this incarnation of Rudd and Putt in a more pop/semi-new wave style. Like all Heaters singles after it, it didn’t bother the charts.
  21. Dragon
    Four Short Solos (Jacobson/Lee/Rogers) 3:20
    CBS BA 222519 1979
This instrumental is from the B-side of their first post-Marc Hunter single Love’s Not Enough and features the talents of new boys Billy Rogers (harmonica, sax) and Richard Lee (violin).
  22. The Innocents
Sooner Or Later (Charles Touber) 3:47
    RCA Victor 103591 1980
Great power pop by the Tasmanian band formerly known as Beathoven. Produced by Ol’55’s Jim Manzie.

Compiled 2005.
